What this guide explains
There is no universal document pack for every import into Jordan. The correct file depends on what is being imported, who is importing it, where it comes from and whether a regulatory authority must approve it.
This checklist is a practical starting point—not a final shipment-specific list.
In 30 seconds
Prepare the core commercial and transport documents first, then check whether the importer or product needs registration, licensing, testing or approval. Make sure the consignee name and shipment description agree across the documents before booking.
Documents commonly reviewed
Commercial invoice
The invoice should identify the seller and buyer or consignee, describe the goods, show quantities and values, and use information consistent with the rest of the shipment file.
Certificate of origin
Origin can affect regulatory and tariff treatment. The official Trade Portal lists the original certificate of origin among the documents used to support an electronic customs declaration, subject to applicable rules and exceptions.
Transport document
Use the document appropriate to the mode: a bill of lading or sea waybill for sea freight, air waybill for air freight, or the applicable road transport document for land freight.
Packing list
When available, it should show the package count, contents, weights, dimensions and marks or references. It should agree with the invoice and physical cargo.
Importer and consignee information
The legal name and tax information should match the customs declaration and supporting documents. A valid importer card or another registration may be relevant depending on the importer and transaction.
Authorization to the clearance company
The authorized clearance company needs the appropriate authority to prepare and manage the declaration. Jordan Customs uses an electronic authorization process for this purpose.
Delivery order or carrier release information
The carrier or agent may require an electronic delivery order or related release information before cargo can move through the port, airport or terminal process.
Additional documents may be required
- Import licence or prior approval
- Product registration
- Test report or conformity document
- Health, sanitary or phytosanitary certificate
- Safety data sheet for chemical or hazardous goods
- Temperature-control records or handling instructions
- Insurance certificate
- Technical catalogue, model number or product composition
- Authority-specific permits or certificates
The Jordan Trade Portal should be checked by exact product. Published procedures differ significantly between pharmaceuticals, food, agricultural goods, electrical products, automotive parts and other categories.
Five checks before the supplier ships
What not to do
- Do not copy a document list from a different commodity and assume it applies.
- Do not use a vague description such as “parts,” “samples” or “equipment” without supporting detail.
- Do not assume a supplier's HS code will automatically be accepted in Jordan.
- Do not wait for arrival to discover that a licence or test report was required before shipment.
- Do not send passwords or unrelated confidential information through a general inquiry form.
